Dont bury your head in the sand when it comes to planning a will

There are many things in life that a lot of people would rather just avoid if at all possible. Although people can avoid some unpleasant parts of life, there are some things that you just can’t escape. For example, death is an unavoidable part of life that will affect everyone at some point. So, even though some people in the Lee County area would rather ignore the subject, it’s something that will inevitably have to be dealt with.

According to data from a legal website, only about half (51%) of all Americans who are between the ages of 55 and 64 have a will. Meantime, of those between the ages of 45 and 54, 62 percent have yet to draft a will, while 67 percent of women that age have yet to do the same. Add up the numbers and reportedly 64 percent of all Americans are without this important legal document.

If a person dies without a will in place, then there is a good chance that a court will end up deciding how his or her assets are distributed. That means, even if that person did have specific wishes regarding his or her assets and the beneficiaries of those assets, he or she will no longer have any say on how things play out.

There’s no question that having an estate plan in place is a good idea for everyone. If you have been putting off setting up your estate plan, including drafting a will, then now might be the time to meet with an experienced estate-planning attorney to get the process started.
